When lists pick up duplicates

Lists grow messy fast. Merge two spreadsheets and the same customer appears twice. Export keywords from two tools and half of them overlap. Copy names from several documents and repeats creep in. Removing duplicates by eye works for ten lines — for a thousand, you need a tool.

This cleaner compares every line, keeps each unique line once, and tells you exactly how many duplicates were removed. Two options matter most: turn case sensitivity off if "Apple" and "apple" mean the same thing in your list, and use Sort A–Z when the cleaned list will be read or checked by a person.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove duplicate lines from a list?

Paste your list into the first box — one item per line — choose your options, then click “Remove duplicates”. The cleaned list appears in the second box, ready to copy.

What is the difference between “keep order” and “sort A–Z”?

Keep order leaves the unique lines in the order they first appeared in your list. Sort A–Z removes the duplicates and then arranges the remaining lines alphabetically.

Does “Apple” count as the same line as “apple”?

Yes, by default. The “Case sensitive” option starts unticked, so “Apple” and “apple” count as the same line and only the first one is kept. Tick “Case sensitive” if capitalisation matters in your list and you want them kept as separate lines.

What happens to blank lines?

Blank lines are removed from the result, and they are not counted in the “lines before” total shown by the tool.

Can I clean a list of emails or keywords?

Yes. This tool is commonly used for email lists, keyword lists, product codes, names and tags — anything stored one item per line. Always make sure you have permission to use any email addresses you process.

Is my list uploaded anywhere?

No. The cleaning happens entirely in your browser, and your list is never sent to a server or stored. The only thing saved on your device is your light or dark theme choice.
